Fred Olsen abolishes single supplements on festive cruises

Fred Olsen abolishes single supplements on festive cruises
Single supplements have been abolished on selected Fred Olsen Cruise Lines voyages this winter.
The special ‘no single supplement’ deals mean that solo passengers occupying a twin cabin will pay the same per person rate as a couple.
The deal covers a pre-Christmas mini cruise on Black Watch (pictured) from Tilbury to Zeebrugge on December 18 with prices starting at £198.
A 16-night Northern Lights cruise from Tilbury on December 20 starts at £2,064.
A 13-night Canary Islands and Caribbean fly-cruise on Braemar departing on December 30 leads in at £1,499.

NO SOLO SUPPLEMENT CRUISES

Thanks to the Cruise People for another No SOLO SUPPLEMENT news blast!

Solo Cruising Without the Single Supplement

 1

Solo cruisers looking to enjoy the comfort and privacy of their own stateroom without the added single supplement can now book staterooms or suites on the French-flagged cruise line Compagnie du Ponant.
The expedition line offers close to 30 cruises aboard the line’s three 132-stateroom sister ships, Le Soleal, Le Boreal and L’Austral, with free single supplement.
Staterooms on all three ships are double occupancy or larger, all have ocean views and most have a private balcony. Compagnie du Ponant’s all-inclusive pricing includes all meals, open bar, gratuities, port charges, taxes and fees. Select itineraries also include round-trip air.
Compagnie du Ponant’s free singles supplement cruises are available for booking throughout the season, with new itineraries added annually.
Founded in 1988 by Jean-Emmanuel Sauvée and a dozen merchant navy officers Compagnie du Ponant has four ships flying the French flag that are able to sail in waters inaccessible to larger ships. Le Boréal, L’Austral and Le Soléal each have 132-staterooms and suites and Le Ponant, 32 staterooms. Its fifth luxury yacht, Le Lyrial, begins sailing in spring 2015.

Is this a trend? NO SOLO SUPPLEMENT …….

thanks to an article by  Fran Golden in USA Today!
Tauck has NO SOLO SUPPLEMENT CABINS,  we have finally been recognized as just as important as everyone else!

Deal watch: Tauck offers solo savings on river cruises

CRUISE LOG
Fran Golden, Special for USA TODAY1:15 p.m. EDT September 27, 2013 Tauck is dropping the dreaded single supplement on lower-level cabins on its Europe river cruises for all of 2014, making it more affordable for solo travelers to cruise. The savings is 50%, with solo travelers paying the same as what someone sharing a cabin would pay. For those who want fancier cabins, Tauck is taking $1,000 off the regular, double-person price for solo travelers booking Category 4 or 5 cabins (with French balconies) on 28 departures in Europe. The company made a similar offer on 2013 itineraries. "By eliminating or reducing the single supplement on so many of our trips, we're really making great journeys for solo travelers even better," said Tauck CEO Dan Mahar, in a prepared statement. Tauck's new riverboats debuting next year, the 130-passenger Savor and Inspire, will provide additional options for those traveling alone. Each boat will have four dedicated 150-square-foot cabins for solo travelers, the line said. The company has also targeted solo travelers with a dedicated Solo Travel Forum and Solo Travel section on its website. Fran Golden is the Experience Cruise expert blogger and a contributing editor of Porthole Magazine. She is the co-author of Frommer's Alaska Cruises and Ports of Call. Golden is serving as Guest Editor of The Cruise Log while USA TODAY Cruise Editor Gene Sloan is away. NO SOLO SUPPLEMENT: see Ports and Bows post

Thanks to a post by http://o.canada.com/discussions/ports-and-bows/ Ports and Bows today, they posted an article by

There is another NO SOLO SUPPLEMENT announcement....... Perhaps this industry has finally recognized there is an entire market they are overcharging?
Thanks to Mr Reimer and Ports and Bows for sharing this.

While all cruise lines, especially the river ones, have been reporting bookings above normal for the year, there are still some sales to be had.
Avalon Waterways announced it’s lifting the single supplement on 12 sailings in Europe between April and October. The number would indicate Avalon has a limited cabins to offer on all 12 cruises.
“The sale represents a saving of up to $4,304,” says Avalon’s Stéphanie Bishop. “Perfect for solo travelers, or two friends who love the space and privacy of their own cabins.”
Plus, with a maximum of just 170 passengers, Avalon ships are a wonderful way to make new friends.

The sailings comprise a choice of itineraries from the 8-day Paris to Normandy’s Landing Beaches to the 15-day Magnificent Europe from Budapest to Amsterdam. Prices for the cruises start at $3,089.
Booking must be made by April 23.
Still with Avalon…
To go along with the launch of two new all-suite ships this year, three more new ships are due to arrive next year. Hitting the rivers of Europe in 2014 will be the Avalon Poetry II, the Illumination, and the Impression.
This spring, Avalon will launch the Artistry II in April and the Expression in May.

Each room on all eight Suite Ships features a French balcony providing travellers with a combination of the largest windows available and a sliding glass door that opens a full seven feet. In addition, I found a spacious seating area at the window delivers that balcony feel.
The design allows for the bed to face the window. That’s very cool when it’s warm (no, that’s not a contradiction!). Open the window and enjoy breakfast in bed. The main suites on the all suite ships are the Panorama Suites at 200 square feet. The Royal Suite is the largest at 300 square feet.
By next spring, eight ships in Avalon’s fleet will be all-suite.
